Behavioral Characteristics
Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, and Poodles are intelligent, loyal dogs that are great with children. They are energetic and require plenty of exercise. In addition to regular walks, these dogs do best in a home where there is enough room to roam around. Homes with backyards are also good for these breeds so they can run around and play in a safe environment. If you live in an apartment, daily exercise is especially important. Otherwise, these dogs can become extremely restless, which may lead to destructive behaviors.
Labradoodles are very friendly, but can be shy when meeting new people. When a stranger comes into your home, a Labradoodle may bark at the door and will stand back and observe before interacting with people. Once they feel comfortable, they will be friendly and playful. Goldendoodles, on the other hand, are generally not afraid of strangers. They will approach anyone and want to be friends with them. One issue with this is that they are sometimes overeager and may jump on people. While this can be annoying, it is possible to train your dog not to jump. Poodles are also generally fine with strangers once they have a chance to sniff them out.
If barking is a concern for you, it is important to consider this behavior when choosing a dog. Labradoodles are the quietest out of the bunch. They don’t bark a lot, but they may bark to warn you about people they aren’t familiar with. Goldendoodles bark a little more, but are still fairly quiet dogs. They may bark when someone comes to the door, or if they get excited. Poodles are barkers, so if you live in an apartment or somewhere where there is noise restriction, this may not be a good option. Proper training can help with some barking behavior, but some breeds are just more vocal than others.
These breeds also have different tolerances for being alone. Labradoodles can be more independent, so they’ll be fine if you leave them alone at home during the day. Goldendoodles cope pretty well with being alone, but they are still very social dogs. Because they’re so friendly, if you leave them with a sitter or dog walker, they will be fine. Poodles don’t do very well when they are alone. This makes them a good pet for someone who works from home or a retired person.
Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, and Poodles have some slight differences that you will want to take into account when choosing the right dog for you. All of these dogs are great for owners with allergies or homes with children. They need plenty of space to roam around, so these breeds do best in homes with backyards. Labradoodles are the largest dog in this group and Poodles and Goldendoodles are a bit smaller in size. They are all friendly dogs, but Poodles and Labradoodles are more hesitant when around strangers. Goldendoodles are very eager to meet new people, but if not trained well, this translates into jumping on people. Labradoodles and Goldendoodles can be alone for a little while, but your Poodle will not want to leave your side. All of these dogs are fairly easy to care for, but keep the differences in mind when you choose the best pet for your home.
