5 Questions to Ask Before Purchasing a Labradoodle

  1. Do I Have Enough Indoor Space for a Labradoodle?

At the same time, Labradoodles aren’t really “outside dogs.” They’ll want to spend time inside with the family. You’ll need a place inside for your Labradoodle to sleep such as a bed or a crate.

You can leave your dog outside during the day when the weather is nice, provided he has access to adequate shelter, food and water.

But if you leave a Labradoodle outside too much, he’ll become anxious and unhappy. Before you buy a Labradoodle, you need to ask if you’re ready for a dog which will stay inside with the family.

  1. Am I Allergic to Dogs?

Labradoodles are NOT 100% hypoallergenic. Basically no dog is. Unfortunately, there’s a common misconception that Labradoodles make great pets for people with pet allergies. The truth is, most pet allergies are not caused by fur. They’re caused by dander. And like most all dogs, Labradoodles do have dander. If you’re allergic to dogs, a Labradoodle might not be a good choice.

However, Labradoodles are still a great choice for around the house. Like poodles, they have minimal shedding. Also like poodles, most Labradoodles have minimal “dog smell.”

They also tend to quickly adapt to family living. With the intelligence of a poodle and the loyalty of a Golden Retriever, your Labradoodle will remain diligent for threats and protective towards members of your household. At the same time, they’re also playful dogs who can comfortably be around children.

  1. Am I Dealing with a Reputable Breeder?

“Puppy mills” are a huge problem in the dog-breeding industry. These unscrupulous breeders care more for profits than the welfare of the puppies they sell. No place is going to call themselves a “puppy mill,” of course, so it’s up to you to research the seller before you buy.

First, you can simply use your eyes, ears and nose. Do the premises where the puppies are kept seem professional and clean? Be very wary of small cages and puppies raised in personal homes. Of course, not being able to see the facilities first-hand is also a huge red flag.
