The Labradoodle is an increasingly popular breed, due to a unique mix between a Poodle and a Labrador. Initially bred for dog lovers that suffer from allergies (due to their hypoallergenic qualities), Labradoodles are now loved family dogs around the world.

These intelligent and unique dogs are one of kind with each new puppy slightly varying from their siblings. Their coats, size and colours vary extensively across the breed with some shaggy while others coat’s appear curly or wiry. When talking about the size of a Labradoodle, this again varies across the breed. Depending on the breed of the Poodle parent, your Labradoodle can be miniature, medium or standard in size.

It is important to note, even with planned breeding, a miniature poodle and a small Labrador does not always result in the Labradoodle being miniature in size. The difference between each dog within this breed makes for a ‘one of a kind’ companion.

Size and Weight of an Adult Labradoodle

As mentioned above, the size of an adult Labradoodle will purely depend on the size of the parents. It is handy to know that all Labradoodles are classed as medium sized dogs and when fully grown, the largest Labradoodle should be no larger than 24 inches high. It is important when choosing a Labradoodle to know the size of the parents as this will give you a rough guide on how large your puppy will be as an adult. The smallest variety of Labradoodles are the result of a Labrador and miniature toy Poodle mix.

Size/Weight of an Adult Labradoodle with a Standard Sized Poodle Parent- The Largest of the Breed

If either of your Labradoodle’s parents were a standard size Poodle, than the result will be a larger variation of Labradoodle. The size of an adult standard size Poodle is between 45-60 cm (at the withers) or approximately 15 inches. The size of an adult Labrador can be anywhere from 55-62 cm tall. From these figures the size of an adult Labradoodle varies from 53-63 cm or 21-24 inches tall. To be more specific, the standard Labradoodle females are generally 21-23 inches, while the males fall between 22-24 inches tall.

The weight of an adult Labradoodle, with a standard Poodle parent can vary from 23-30 kg or 50-65 lbs.

The standard Labradoodle is an active dog that loves running and playing. These dogs need room and are not ideal for those in apartment living. The standard Labradoodles are the most common and referred to as the ‘large’ dogs within this breed.

Size/Weight of an Adult Labradoodle with a Medium Sized Poodle Parent

Medium Labradoodles are the result of breeding a medium sized Poodle and a Labrador. The majority of this breed when fully grown will measure 43-52 cm or 17-20 inches tall (measured at the wither). The males of this breed tending to be on the taller end of the scale ranging from 18-20 inches tall.

Very true to it’s name, this is a medium sized dog that can range from 13-20 kg or 30-45 lbs. This variation of the Labradoodle breed can still be the perfect lap dog but also a great companion for a morning walk or a game of throw and catch.

Size/Weight of an Adult Labradoodle with a Miniature Sized Poodle Parent- The Smallest of the Breed

The miniature sized Labradoodle is one of the most sought after breeds. Loved for it’s hypoallergenic fur but also the fact it is miniature in size. This variation of the Labradoodle breed is the result of a Labrador and either a ‘toy’ or ‘miniature’ Poodle. When fully grown, a miniature Labradoodle will measure 35-42 cm or 14-16 inches high (at the wither).

In terms of weight, these dogs will should be no heavier than 13kg. When fully grown they will weigh between 7-13 kg or 15-25 lbs.

The miniature sized Labradoodle makes a great lap dog for small home or apartment owners. A popular pet choice for families with children.

Other Sizing Aspects of a Labradoodle

Tail

The tail of a Labradoodle is relatively long and should have a slight curl although not curl over completely. A Labradoodles tail should never be docked.

Feet

The Labradoodle breed has medium sized paws.

Ears

The ears of this breed are large and generally rounded at the tip.

Noting the Difference Between an Australian Labradoodle and a Labradoodle

There is a distinct difference between an Australian Labradoodle and a Labradoodle. Many people do not realise there is two types of Labradoodles although their is a distinct appearance difference between them.

An Australian Labradoodle, is a mix between a Labrador and Poodle although somewhere along the breeding line, a Cocker Spaniel is added into the mix. The Australian Labradoodle has larger boning and a softer coat in comparison to the traditional Labradoodle.
