Where Can I Adopt a Labradoodle?

Adopting a Labradoodle is an amazing way to improve the life of an abandoned dog. There are so many Labradoodles in shelters and rescues that need a loving home. Because there are so many ways to breed a Labradoodle, there will be lots of variation of the dogs you find in the shelters. If you want a Labradoodle and you don’t necessarily need a show dog, consider rescuing a dog from a shelter and give them a loving home.

There are a lot of benefits to adopting an adult Labradoodle. First of all, the adoption fees are way lower than the cost of buying a puppy. If you’ve never owned a dog, or you don’t know how to train a dog, that’s not a big deal. Labradoodles in rescues are usually already trained, either by their previous owners or by the shelter employees. This means that you don’t have to worry about potty training your new dog and they’ll be out of their puppy chewing phase.

Another benefit of adopting a Labradoodle is that you can choose the perfect dog to match your lifestyle. Shelter workers have time to observe a dog’s personality and see how they interact with people, kids, and other dogs. When you get a puppy, you don’t know what they’re going to be like when they’re older. This is especially helpful if you have kids and you want your dog to get along well with children.

Because this breed became popular so quickly, there are lots of Labradoodles in shelters that need homes. The dogs in these shelters are not bad dogs, but their owners likely weren’t prepared for their Labradoodle’s needs. Before adopting a Labradoodle, make sure you have the time and energy to take them on walk and play with them. These dogs can spend some time alone, but allow them the option to be near you while you are home. Sometimes, Labradoodles are purchased from breeders, who didn’t know or care about what they were doing. Sometimes, that results in Labradoodles that cause allergic reactions in humans or dogs that get annoyed by children. If the shelter doesn’t mention it, you may want to ask about the dog’s past owners.

There are so many places to adopt Labradoodles and so many resources out there to find dogs that are available for adoption. A good place to start is at your local dog shelter or humane society. Their re-homing needs are often most urgent, because they may be euthanized if there are not enough resources to care for them. Unfortunately, if you’re absolutely set on adopting a Labradoodle, you may be waiting a while until your shelter has that specific breed.

Next, look for Labradoodle rescues in your area. These organizations are like shelters devoted to Labradoodles. When you’re looking at a shelter that specializes in one breed, you can be sure that they will help you find the perfect dog for you. They will probably be more knowledgeable about the dog than you would find at a big animal shelter. Many times “trouble” dogs and dogs with special needs are put into foster care and only become available for adoption once they’re trained, socialized, or existing problems are worked out.

If you’re willing to make a drive to find a Labradoodle, try looking at a website like Petfinder. Petfinder helps you search by rescue dogs and you can search by various criteria such as breed, sex, age, or location. You can also search other factors like kid-friendly, dog-friendly, and cat-friendly. Once you find a dog or a shelter, the link will direct you to the appropriate contact information.
